Blogmas Day 2: My Skincare Collection (Everything Under $20!)

img_28071.jpg

Hello lovelies! Glad to see you again. It is now day 2 of my blogmas series and today I wanted to share something I'm truly passionate about and that is skincare.

I've suffered with Acne my whole life and have finally for the first time in over 10 years feel like I finally have it down to a point where it doesn't completely embarrass me. That is thanks to the education I've received on sites like MakeupAlley, YouTube and other blogs.

Here's a video I made a few months ago explaining my story.

Many people in the beauty world, especially my favorite Caroline Hirons, talk about how you should spend more money on skincare than makeup because by treating your face, you won't need as much makeup and your skin will be glowing.

However, there are products out there that won't break the bank. I refuse to buy skincare items more than $20 (even $17-18 is a lot for me!) mostly cause I'm cheap like that. Plus there are dupes for everything and I won't give in!

I also wrote an article about my skincare dream wishlist Here as well as my 30 Top Rated Natural Skincare Products

Without Further Ado, Let's begin! Here's my Drugstore Skincare Collection

Cleansers:

Ok I'll start off with my cleanser. The one I've been LOVING for the past few months is The Face Shop Rice Water Cleansing Oil ($9 on Amazon). This baby is a cult classic in the skincare world and that is because it is from the area in the world where skincare reigns above most everything: Asia. This cleansing oil comes straight from Korea and it is so great at taking off my makeup. It smells fresh and I love it. I've really seen a difference as I've used it everyday for months. Score: 9/10

Another cleanser I got at Sephora for $10 it is the Purity facial cleanser from Philosophy. This is another popular product I was curious about. I don't like it as much as the last cleanser but will use it occasionally to change things up. It's very gentle as well. I use this product mainly with my clarisonic for that reason. Score: 6/10

The final Cleanser that I use is the Acure Facial Cleanser Cleansing Gel, which I got for around $15-16 at Whole Foods. I bought this because it had such good reviews online and I had to get it! It smells like lemon poppyseed bread (I don't know how) and it has more of a gel consistency. Really great product overall. Score: 8/10

Makeup Removers

So my next category is strictly makeup removers.

The first product is the Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes, available everywhere. These are my all-time favorite makeup wipes. I've tried the Yes to Carrots! brand, but these maintain their moisture better. Really great for sleepovers and travel. Score: 8/10

The next product I use for strictly makeup removal is the Bioderma Crealine H20 micellar water. I bought this in Paris in January because of the overwhelming talk of it on YouTube. This is a cult product and is really hard to find in the States. This is like magic, as it looks and feels like water but takes off all your makeup and you can't even feel a difference. Really great buy if you are ever abroad and it is available on Ebay. Score: 9/10

Scrubs

Next I will talk about exfoliating Scrubs. I use these maybe once a week to get rid of dead skin.

The first one is the Alba Botanica natural acne dot face and body scrub which I bought for $8 at Target. I like this because it's for both face and body. It looks disgusting (hint: it's brown) but smells amazing. I haven't used this one as much lately but will have to start using it again. Score: 6/10

Next is my favorite scrub, the Desert Essence Gentle Facial Scrub with Jojoba Oil and Almond Meal, which I got for $12 at Whole Foods. I swear every time I use this before bed, I wake up the next morning and I have no acne at all and my face feels amazing. The smell isn't the best but it is full, it will take me years to go through this stuff! My personal suggestion for scrubs. Score: 9/10

The final two scrubs I use together.

The Freeman Facial Polishing Mask ($3.99 at Ulta) and the St. Ives Apricot Scrub(Ulta) are best used when combined. Although the Freeman one is technically a mask, the charcoal and black sugar make it more of a scrub and when added to the St. Ives one creates a more soothing effect. Score: 8/10

Toners

After my face is washed, I apply a toner.

In the morning after I moisturize, I apply one of my favorite products, the Laroche-Posay Serozinc spray. This stuff is incredible. It really does sooth red spots and inflammed areas on my face. I bought this in Paris as well but is available online if you look. Really great. Score: 9/10

In the evening, I use one of 2 toners, as they both contain glycolic acid

The first is the more expensive. It's the Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner ($18 at Ulta).

I apply this to a white cotton facial pad and I can feel the acid as I put it on (it's safe I promise). It's a cooling sensation, but the smell isn't great. Score: 7/10

I use that, or most recently I've been using the Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix toning pads ($12 at Target). These are really great and my personal suggestion for an evening toner. They are pads already filled with the toner solution that you just wipe and throw. Super easy, cheap and they smell better than the other ones. Score: 9/10

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner is something I don't use anymore, I really feel like it didn't do anything for my face. Not a recommended product by me. Score: 5/10

Masks

Masks are something I never used until about 3 years ago. Now I have several.

The first is the Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Mud MaskI got at Ulta ($5.99).

This mask smells like citrus and I really like it. Masks are special occasion things for me and I use this sparingly.

The other mask I use, which is a great buy, is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, which I bought at Whole Foods for around $6. This stuff is amazing. The powder is mixed with water or apple cider vinegar and becomes one of those green masks you see in movies. Leave it on for a half hour and it will crack on your face. I love this one.

Moisturizer and Night Creams

Trader Joe's Face Lotion

I use this everyday as my morning moisturizer. It's cheap, unscented and works great. Score: 9/10

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre

I bought this in Paris as well and I like it. I don't think it's the best product but it works fine. Score: 7/10

Alaffia Everyday Coconut Nighttime replenishing face cream

($10 at Whole Foods). I use this as my night cream before I go to bed. This stuff is RICH and heavy. But it absorbs completely during the night and keeps my face moisturized. Score: 8/10

Not Pictured: Queen Helene Oatmeal and Honey Scrub and the Mario Badescu Facial Spray.

That's it for my skincare collection.

Let me know what you use and if you have any questions!
